TMJ-Sleep Colorado is a comprehensive diagnostic and treatment center, employing the use of the latest technolgy.

We provide comprehensive care focused on achieving wellness as quickly, easily, and painlessly as possible.

Available at our practice are the following:

  • i-Cat 3D cone beam
  • Joint Vibration Analysis
  • Jaw Tracker
  • Pharyngometer/Rhinometer
  • MLS Laser

i-Cat 3D Cone Beam

The iCAT provides 3-D views of critical structures for complete TMJ analysis, allowing the doctor to investigate and diagnose bone morphology, joint space, and function - all critical to TMJ dysfunction treatment and care. Most importantly, the iCAT can help the doctor to understand the relationship of abnormal anatomy, when treating TMJ and air way issues.

Using a 9 second, high-speed scan, the iCAT captures TMJ open jaw views quickly and accurately and can detect restricted airways. Once the doctor has reviewed the scan, he can determine appropriate treatments.

iCat Enhanced Features:

  • Fast Scan Time (9 seconds)
  • Minimal patient radiation
  • Comfortable design
  • Fast reconstruction time (usually producing 3-D images in under one minute)

Joint Vibration Analysis

Joint Vibration Analysis (JVA) records the vibrations produced by the jaw when it is in motion. Designed to only capture the "sounds" of the jaw joint, it accurately quantifies the amount of vibration from the jaw and allows the doctor to understand how the joint is impaired (because of clicking, popping, etc.) and categorize it. This technique will also assist the doctor in monitoring the progress of treatment.

Jaw Tracker

The Jaw Tracker (JT) uses a small but strong magnet to record the way in which the mouth opens and closes and the position which is most comfortable. With this understanding, the doctor can better design an oral appliance to rehabilitate the TMJ and secure it in an aligned and comfortable position.

Pharyngometer/Rhinometer

This Eccovision device uses acoustic reflection technology to accurately map out the size, structure and collapsibility of the oral and nasal airway.
Dr. Jim Beck uses the Pharyngometer to screen patients prior to diagnosis. A narrow airway reading on the Pharyngometer correlates to higher Apnea Hypopnea Indices once the person is diagnosed. After diagnosis the pharyngometer helps to show us how the airway changes in repsonse to mandibular advancement. It has been concluded that the pharyngometer was accurate in ruling out patients who would not benefit from oral appliances 95% of the time.

MLS Laser

Through the action of photo-stimulation of light reactive biological receptors (chromophores) in the body, laser therapy has demonstrated the ability to significantly accelerate and enhance the body's production of ATP and increase in biological signal transduction that stimulates repair in injuries, reduction of inflammation and adjuvant therapy in certain disease processes. Multiple clinical studies in Canada, Europe, Asia, and Australia have noted the following results and applications of laser therapy:

  • Decreased pain levels
  • Reduced inflammation
  • Increased tissue proliferation & regeneration
  • Accelerated soft tissue and bone repair
  • Increased tissue tensile strength
  • Enhanced nerve regeneration & function
  • Increased cell metabolism
  • Increased enzymatic responses
  • Increased cell membrane potentials
  • Increased microcirculation & vasodilation
  • Increased lymphatic flow
  • Increased collagen production
  • Enhanced angiogenesis
